Splash Executive Chef Gianni Caruso

Gianni Caruso, a native of Abruzzi, Italy, studied and practiced culinary arts in his hometown before moving to London to expand his gastronomic knowledge and fulfill his urge to explore more cosmopolitan cuisine. During his 11-year stay in London, Caruso honed his culinary skills at Venetian-style Café Florian, and the R.S. Hispaniola, a well-known restaurant adjacent to Big Ben.

Caruso came to the U.S. in the 1990s and was offered a job at South End Galleria Italiana under fellow Abruzzese Marisa Iocco. Caruso later joined Iocco in her move to Frank DePasquale’s Enoteca Bricco in Boston’s North End. Caruso’s talent and vision led him to the role of overseeing Bricco’s sister restaurant Umbria Prime.

Today, Caruso spearheads the creative direction and flow of both Umbria Prime and Bricco kitchens, as well as Splash Ultra Lounge & Burger Bar. With Splash, DePasquale has enlisted Caruso to help translate his vision of a burger bar by crafting a selection of gourmet burgers using ingredients such as Kobe beef, Sirloin Steak and lobster.

With a passion and love for cooking, Caruso’s philosophy is to believe in the art of reconnecting to simple ingredients and “long-lost” flavors – those that are pure but powerful.
